A "Code Blue" weather event warns about extremely cold conditions that increase risks to vulnerable populations. It indicates that dangerously low temperatures combined with windchill are expected for an extended period, which can lead to increased health issues like frostbite and hypothermia. This alert prompts the Shelter Solutions For Central Montana warming center to be open 24/7 for those needing warmth.
A Code Blue is initiated by the Board for Shelter Solutions. The Alerts and information can be found on Facebook with postings shared by Shelter Solutions, Fergus County DES and Lewistown Police Protection Service.
During a Code Blue, Shelter Solutions is open 24/7 and provides a warm place to sleep, shelter, and comfort from the harsh weather during the day, as well as hot meals, warm clothes, blankets, etc. We thank the community for supporting the four Code Blues events in 2025. People have provided their time, warm meals, warm clothes and jackets, and financial donations to make this possible.
